Attorney & Owner

biography

Christian Malone is a dedicated civil litigation attorney based in Bend, Oregon. With more than 15 years of local experience, he serves clients throughout Central Oregon and across the state. Christian focuses his practice on resolving complex disputes involving real property, real estate transactions, HOA disputes, construction matters, contract issues, business conflicts, and appeals. He is known for his principled advocacy, meticulous analysis, and commitment to achieving practical, effective results for individuals and businesses.

Christian started Bristlecone Law after working for more than a decade at various-sized law firms across Bend. He chose to start a solo practice that reflects how he likes to work—with direct client contact, clear advice, and a steady focus on solving problems efficiently and cost effectively. Christian manages every case himself and stays involved at every stage, from early planning through resolution, and keeps his clients informed throughout the process.

Christian’s Legal Approach

Christian counsels clients through every stage of litigation, from early negotiations through trial and appeal, and also represents clients in mediation and arbitration. Clients appreciate Christian’s clear, honest counsel, attention to detail, and strategic guidance through all stages of representation. Christian focuses on practical solutions based on his clients’ unique needs. He doesn’t push cases toward trial unless that’s the best option. Instead, he looks at what each client actually needs, whether that’s a negotiated settlement, mediation, or courtroom litigation.

Christian never relies on templates or shortcuts. Each case he handles gets his full attention, and he tailors his strategies to the facts, the law, and his clients’ goals. He prepares carefully and keeps pressure on the other side while remaining flexible and reasonable. If the situation changes, he adapts quickly. Christian prioritizes clear communication and straight answers so his clients can make informed choices without getting buried in legal jargon.

Early Legal Career & Education

Christian began his legal career at the Oregon Supreme Court in 2006, first as a petitions law clerk to Chief Justice Paul J. De Muniz and then as a judicial clerk to Associate Justice Virginia L. Linder. While at the court, he helped draft opinions and worked closely with the Justices on nearly every aspect of the court’s work. These formative experiences provided a strong foundation in careful legal reasoning and appellate practice and developed an invaluable skill set that he draws on daily.

Professional Involvement & Education

Active within Oregon’s legal community, Christian served on the Oregon State Bar House of Delegates (Region 1) from 2011 to 2018 and is a current member of the Oregon State Bar Disciplinary Board. He has also worked with state-level groups like the Civil Justice Improvements Task Force to help shape how Oregon courts operate. Locally, Christian served as Chair of the Deschutes County Bar Association’s Social Committee for nearly a decade, bringing back to life the long-lost local tradition of a monthly lawyers’ “kaffee klatsch.” Christian has been a member of the Oregon State Bar and licensed to practice in Oregon state courts since 2005. He has been a member of the United States District Court for the District of Oregon and licensed to practice in Oregon federal courts since 2009. Christian earned his J.D. from Willamette University College of Law in 2005. Originally from Nevada, Christian earned a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Nevada in 1996.

Non-Legal Interests & Community Involvement

Away from the office, Christian enjoys exploring America’s mountains, deserts, and national parks with his family. A passionate guitarist, he spends much of his free time writing original music and collaborating with other musicians and continually seeks new sonic inspiration through analog amps and effects. Aligned with his six-string obsession, Christian has served as a Director on the Board of the Cascade School of Music since 2013. That role keeps him connected to a broader network in Central Oregon and gives him the opportunity to support local music education. Christian believes in staying involved, showing up, and giving back when he can, whether that’s through law, music, or service to the profession and his community.

Postscript

A hallmark of Christian’s approach to the practice of law—and the inspiration behind the name Bristlecone Law—is the resilient and adaptive character of the bristlecone pine tree (also native to Nevada). Like the enduring bristlecone, renowned for thriving in the harshest environments and standing strong for millennia, Christian’s litigation practice is built on independence, resourcefulness, and steadfast commitment through every legal challenge. This enduring spirit underpins Bristlecone Law’s dedication to guiding clients through complex disputes with determination, adaptability, and an unwavering focus on long-term results. The firm’s name serves as both a symbol and a promise: to advocate with resilience, integrity, and a capacity for creative solutions in even the most demanding circumstances.
